MOA Freeze
A play on the classical architectural element ‘Frieze’ - a decorative band of artworks that wraps around a structure, this exhibition transforms the concept into a more literal ‘Freeze’: to preserve, to suspend, to capture a fleeting moment in time. Here, the wall becomes both canvas and capsule, holding within it the preserved imprints of memory, history, and emotion.
Moa Egg Art is a new collective of 12 artists from across the globe, working in diverse mediums, genres, and traditions. Many are returning members from a previous group that exhibited at Grey, joined now by new voices who share a similar passion for creating and sharing meaningful art. This eclectic group presents a rich array of 2D and 3D works, each deeply personal yet universally resonant.
Much like the extinct moa once significant in its ecosystem, now a symbol of change and learning, the artworks in this exhibition serve as metaphorical fossils: markers of moments that shaped the artists' inner landscapes. Each piece is a timestamp, preserving a pivotal exchange, a shift in perception, an emotion deeply felt, be it beauty, joy, solitude, or sorrow. These works are not only reflections of the past but catalysts for future thought and understanding.
