Katalla Scott
Katalla Scott (24) is a multidisciplinary creative based in Tāmaki Makaurau, specialising in graphite and mixed media works. Her work is deeply influenced by the intricacies of the human form, exploring physical expression and crafting emotionally charged pieces through a sensory lens shaped by her colour synesthesia. Currently completing a Bachelor of Design and Contemporary Art, Katalla also draws from her background in dance, infusing her art with dynamic energy and emotional depth.
'Morphed' artwork represents transition — the movement from one moment to the next. I interpret the human form as a symbol of exploration and growth. In creating this work, I aimed to capture my journey of rediscovering and relearning who I am at my core. At a lost and confused point in my life, I longed for a sense of belonging and struggled with the grief of losing my sense of self and an undefined future. In letting go of my old self and embracing a new form, the painting remains intentionally unfinished and raw, embodying the vulnerability and fragility of life and love in all its forms.
