Slowly and Carefully

26 June – 7 July 2018

"Slowly and carefully" - wise words frequently spouted from the mouth of my dearly departed, late mother-in-law, is a show about drawing, mark-making and composition.

Using a variety of retro and vintage found materials, combined with a range of media, it playfully dances somewhere between the past and the present, fine art and craft, high and low brow, while weaving together both personal and collective narratives and conversations.

Awkwardly conscious of their contradictory status, the works explore a form of labour-intensive, repetitive, pattern-making, slowly building up shape and form to create something from nothing. Via a slow inquiry into space, illusion and obliteration, these works celebrate the fact that, like wine and cheese-making, good things take time...
