Bekah Carran
Bekah Carran (Te Ātiawa, Pākehā b.1976) was born in Whanganui and now lives in Ōtepoti on the Peninsula.
She holds a BFA majoring in Sculpture from the Otago School of Fine Art. Carran’s current practice explores connection to people and place. She feels the pull of the line across time and distance, to a moment tying flies with her grandad for his awa missions. Later, water flows around his legs on it’s way to the moana. Residencies include the Olivia Spencer Bower Artist-in-Residence in Christchurch (2003) and Driving Creek Pottery, Coromandel (2024). Carran has exhibited regularly since 2000, with highlights including Dawn in the New Age, The Obstinate Object at City Gallery, Wellington (2012), And We Look and Comb Our Hair at The New Dowse (2020), and Can You Pick Me Up at The National, Christchurch (2024).
