Amie Redpath
Amie Redpath (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Māmoe, Waitaha, Manx, Scottish, English) is a sculptor living and working at Whangārei Heads, where the rhythms of sea and land shape her practice. Self-taught since 2014, she works primarily in hard stone, basalt, argillite, and andesite, creating functional art, jewellery, and sculpture that invite reflection on our shared responsibility to protect biodiversity and maintain ecological balance.
Her latest Sponge collection draws inspiration from the research of Professor James Bell and his team at Victoria University, whose studies highlight the resilience and fragility of Aotearoa’s sea sponge ecosystems. By carving these forms in enduring stone, Amie offers a quiet tribute and lasting regard to marine life often unseen yet essential to ocean health.
For Ngahere: Where the Forest Whispers, she also presents pieces created in collaboration with LyZadie Design Studio. This partnership merges her grounding, organic forms with Lyzadie’s contemporary design vision, resulting in works that bridge natural inspiration and refined modern spaces.
“Collaboration challenges me to expand my skills and see my work through a new lens, it’s where possibility grows.”
Come and see Amie’s work, including her collaboration with LyZadie Design Studio, at the Ngahere Exhibition @thegreyplace this September — a celebration of craftsmanship and the natural world.
