George May Young
Georgina May Young b.1977 (Te Ūpokorehe, Te Whakatōhea, Irish)was born in Ōpōtiki and is based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
Georgina's practice layer by layer works in awe with te Taiao. A gardener, mother, and textile artist, her work moves within whakapapa, cosmic kinship, and the memories held in whenua and wai – tracing ancestral knowledge and potential imagined futures. Rooted in daily ritual and a slow life, Georgina May Young's practice rejects capitalist excess in favour of deep connection honoring process, reciprocity, and the mauri of materials. Incorporating slow methodologies, Georgina's textiles are often handwoven, dyed, and embroidered, celebrating a labour-intensive and meditative process requiring extended time to complete.
