Evocative and dreamlike, her cloudscapes are each unique in form and composition, while her abstract work has a bold sense of movement. Tinning, who worked as a hairstylist for 20 years at some of New Zealand's top salons, has been painting for 12.Primarily self-taught, her love for the medium has grown into a full time passion.
More recently, Tinning has broadened her portfolio to encompass photographic commissions. Working mostly in black and white, she opts to take a backseat role - observing rather than directing - and captures special moments because of it.
Tinning's creative approach is methodical, detailed and exercised in solitude. However, though precise in her technique, she also allows room to feel - both in her construction of a work, and in the viewer's experience of it.
