Dominique Baker

Dominique Baker is a painter, carver and printmaker, born and raised on the North Shore of Auckland.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Auckland University of Technology in 2008. Baker is of Japanese, Maori and European heritage, which has greatly influenced her practice.

Her work is informed by street art and exploring a range of methods of making, resulting in visually intricate paintings.

Do you have a favourite colour?

Black and Blue

How do you take your coffee?

Decaf flat white with one sugar. I know that seems like a crime to drink decaf coffee but I used to drink so much coffee that I started to become super sensitive to caffeine and my eye wouldn't stop twitching for like 3 months!

Is there something you can't live without in your studio?

Who is your favourite artist of all time + now? Why?

Andy Warhol + James Jean. Andy Warhol just because I love Pop Art and how he made art seem more accessible. James Jean because I always seem to find something different every time I look at his illustrations. I like getting lost in them.
